In medical practice

MD Knowing up to date blood concentrations is often crucial for adapting treatment to the patient. Using the Medimate Lithium MiniLab it is possible for your practice to determine your patients' blood concentrations within a few minutes. In this way the latest data is always available to you to make the best possible decisions regarding the treatment of your patient. For the patient, this meansshorter travel and waiting times but in particular the benefit of direct feedback.

This would be especially important in the following cases:

  • Suspected intoxication
  • Doubts about the accuracy of dosage
  • Discontinuation of lithium therapy
  • Adjusting the patient to lithium
  • Monitoring adherence to therapy
  • Readjustment after changes in co-medication
  • For patients with fear of needles
  • Patients who refuse laboratory tests
  • More frequent lithium monitoring in the case of, for example
    • impaired renal function
    • pregnant patients
    • unstable patients

For the patient at home

MD With the Medimate Lithium MiniLab it is possible to take the laboratory with you to your patient's home. In this way lithium monitoring becomes easier for patients who have difficulty getting to the laboratory, such as the elderly. And good lithium monitoring is particularly important for this group since co-medication, impaired renal function andfragile health play an increasingly large role.

The Lithium MiniLab can also be deployed very well by Fact-teams in the guidance of patients in their own environment and thus contribute to the recovery process.

For self-monitoring

MD Medimate believes in self-monitoring. The biggest advantage of self-monitoring by patients is that the quality of life of your patients will significantly improve. Patients are freer to come and go as they please and can perform measurements directly if deemed necessary, something that was, until now, not possible.

Quality of therapy will increase because due to improved monitoring medication can be adjusted more accurately. It is also expected that critical situations (such as Lithium intoxications and the associated hospital admissions) can be prevented.

(Temporary) self-monitoring can be of importance for:

  • Adjusting the patient to lithium
  • Discontinuation of lithium therapy
  • Readjustment after changes in co-medication
  • Monitoring adherence to therapy
  • Doubts about the accuracy of dosage
  • Pregnant patients
  • Unstable patients

A dedicated website will be made available for Lithium patients with detailed information about lithium, the Medimate Lithium MiniLab and the interpretation of lithium results. It is also possible to keep an electronic diary on the website and to integrate the measurements into the diary using a USB stick, so that a good overview of the lithium level is created (www.levenmetlithium.nl).

In the laboratory

In addition to carrying out capillary measurements the Medimate Lithium MiniLab can also be employed within the laboratory to determine lithium levels in serum or EDTA whole blood. There is no need for time-consuming calibration in order to perform reliable measurements; neither does operation require any extensive training or expertise. In this way it becomes possible for small laboratories to provide fast, reliable lithium determination as part of their service.

In research

The Medimate Lithium MiniLab offers an effective way to research the usage and uptake of lithium:

There are actually still a lot of unknowns about Lithium usage. Consider the effects of Lithium use on pregnant women, the exact progression of lithium levels and adherence to therapy. With the MiniLab, Medimate offers you the possibility to perform research into similar facets of Lithium therapy.
